Airline and other transport website deals…

When I first started to organise our 3 month trip to Italy, I found it quite hard to find all the travel discounts until I worked out that if I signed up for different websites they would email me any deals that may be available at the time we were there.

Here is a list of airlines to get you started:

budget airlines

here is a website that tells you where all of the European budget airlines fly.  www.euroflights.info

www.airasia.com- from Australia/Asia to London and Paris

www.easyjet.com

www.ryanair.com

you will find that easyjet and ryanair will go to most places from London.

www.meridiana.it this airline is the one we used from London to Florence as it was the only low cost airline I could find that flew directly to Florence.

Most budget airlines will take you to airports outside of the city which can sometimes take up to 2 hours in a bus to your accommodation depending on the time of day.  So take this into account, especially when you book a flight that lands at 9 or 10pm as you won’t get to your hotel until midnight.

If you are wanting to go to Italy for instance from London, it is better to choose either Rome or Milan as your first stop as this is where you will most likely be able to use budget airlines.  When using easyjet or ryanair you need to keep in mind that they normally leave from Luton, Gatwick or Stansted airports.  This is where you can take advantage of the buses from Victoria Station to get to the airport cheaply.  Easyjet has it’s own buses from certain train stations to the airports www.easybus.co.uk

My advise if you are travelling with children is to organise a private transfer to your accommodation (it may cost more than using the bus/train but it will keep you sane especially when you have just been on a really long flight).

For example it could cost

* £81 for a private chauffeur driven car for 4 people with 3 large suitcases and 3 carry ons from Stansted to your accommodation in London (door to door)

* £84 for 4 people on the Stansted Express to Victoria Station (you have to find your own way to your accommodation with your baggage)

For those of you with older children or none at all I suggest you use the buses if you want to save £’s.

* £10 each on the National Express Victoria Bus  100min journey (book accommodation near Victoria station)

* £9 each on Terravision Victoria Bus 75 min journey.

*  £2+ each easyBus takes you to Baker Street Station (book accommodation near Baker Street)

The reason for booking accommodation near to the bus stations mentioned is that it is much easier to be able to  just walk to your hotel /hostel / apartment from the bus station and probably faster than waiting for a taxi.  (note: travel with 1 large suitcase and 1 small carry on that you can attach to your wheeled baggage).

My next post will be on the accommodation near Victoria and Baker Street Stations.

We stayed in a 2 1/2 star b & b near Victoria station, if you have stayed in a budget hotel in London I would love to hear from you.  Please leave a comment mentioning the hotel, the area and your budget.

Decision made… now just have to get permission :-)

I have decided that it would be a great idea to follow my parents on their trip to Paris, along some rivers and into Prague.

I think that it should be ok.  As I am unable to travel with them and Pauline (friend from church) I would love to blog it for them.

I have been sharing some of the great things I found out in Paris, like cheaper travel, great food, and must see places while I was there with my family last year.  Also, the accommodation they are staying in pre-tour was found by yours truly.  Everything else was organised by our friend at church who happens to be a travel agent.

Dad and Pauline will be shooting off their cameras like mad so I should be able to get plenty of pics to share with you here and do a running commentary on them also.  Maybe even post some interesting facts on places they have visited.  Also I want to test out the advice I have given them about public transport and museum tickets etc…  Would also love to see if they visit my favourite Paris cafe.

Maybe I can convince them to bring some of the souvenirs I couldn’t fit in my bags… maybe.

Are you looking for boots that fit…

My wonderful cousin (inlaw) let me in on this little secret a few years ago.  Now they have free shipping to Australia and a saving in the VAT tax of about $35 so you can get a great pair of boots that fit your foot and calf delivered to your door for less than $200.

Duo Boots are great!!

Once you get onto the site you find your perfect size (I am size 10 US/AU so a 41 UK with a 36cm calf) You pop these measurements in and a page will pop up with what is available.  WONDERFUL!!!   You can even get a pair designed for you if you have a particular style in mind.

European winter fashion … will you try it in Australia?

I was curious to see what were the new fashion trends in Europe this year particularly for winter as our winter is fast approaching in Australia.

As you may have heard already the skinny jean is being replaced by a higher waisted bell bottom.  I know what you are thinking…eww gross, but wait til you see some pictures I have found.  The “new” bell bottom does not have a HUGE hem but more of a wide leg pant and it looks quite good.  I will definitely be trying some to see if they fit my body shape.  I won’t be throwing away the skinny jeans (they look too hot Smile).

Ok so I have a crazy magnetism to hounds tooth and love it but have never purchased anything made with it…maybe this year?

Get your leather jackets out everyone, although leather jackets are always in fashion you are going to see more people wearing them and in more than just basic black.

Now I am not sure about the above, looks cute on her but to me a cape is like taking your blanket off the bed and wrapping it around you then leaving the house.  I for one am definitely not a cape person…give me a jacket or trench any day.

I love the above jacket from Forcast at Westfield.com.au.   In fact since I have just found this online shopping store I think I will be making a few purchases this week for my winter wardrobe.  There is free shipping for anything over $50.

For my next “euro” addiction post I will try to find some great European summer fashion that will be available here in Australia and of course I will be sharing more on my adventures in Europe and my plans to revisit.
